Drugs, Alcohol, and Anger Management Classes

Hesperia Unified School District offers both a Drug and Alcohol Prevention class and an Anger Management class after school hours through the Twilight Program. Classes serve junior high and high school students with priority given to students currently enrolled in the Hesperia Unified School District.  Classes run for approximately six weeks, with students completing 18 total hours of coursework.

School counselors, school administration, the school District, the Juvenile Courts, or Probation may refer students to enroll in classes.  Parents and students may self-refer for the program. Parents or guardians must call the Twilight Program clerk to begin the registration process.

Anger Management Program Overview

This class presents an opportunity for students to explore feelings and situations that contribute to anger triggers, the ability to recognize physical and emotional responses to anger, and identify reactions to anger.  Students are presented strategies to better manage emotions, conflicts, anger, and stress. The class offers a variety of multimedia and peer interaction to help students identify consequences of anger management styles and develop strategies to manage anger in healthier and safer means.

Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Prevention Program Overview

This program allows students the opportunity to examine themselves, social role, ethics, future personal goals, and how substance use and abuse affect their decisions. The curriculum focuses on both legal and illegal substances.  Topics include “legal but dangerous” substances, such as alcohol, tobacco, prescription medications, and over-the-counter medications. Other topics include illegal substance use and abuse, including inhalants. The information offered through this class provides students the opportunity to focus on coping skills, peer pressure, and gain a knowledge and understanding of substance use and abuse with the consequences it carries.  This material presents information in a way for students to develop a sense of self to help them make responsible drug-free choices.
